Investment return is one of those very basic terms that seem to be thrown around without a great deal of explanation. For experienced professionals, returns are the most basic part of the business. For new investors, though, understanding the basic concept can be a bit more difficult. In short, a return on investment is the amount of money you get back for the amount you have invested. It forms the bedrock of investing, and those who do not pay attention to the concept are those who tend to lose out. Unfortunately, there is more to the concept than simple math ? figuring out the real costs of investment can drastically change the way that you look at returns.

Investment Return Realities

Yes, investment return does take actual profit into account. A great investor, though, knows that the real value of an investment has more to do than whether or not it brings in a profit. One might consider the amount of capital it takes to invest as a portion of investment return math ? after all, money that you use to invest in one stock cannot be used elsewhere. Likewise, it might be wise to think of the amount of time that the stock or commodity takes to reach its sale price as an important facet of determining its worth. You need to consider not only how much money a stock makes you, but how it affects the possibility of other earnings as well.

If you want to make money, you have to keep your returns in mind. If you want to make a great deal of money, though, you have to be able to look at your returns as more than just the amount that gets deposited in your investment accounts. Investment return can be hard to understand, but doing so will help to ensure your future success.
